I have been lucky enough to be trained in Yale's RULER program for social emotional learning (SEL). In addition to our regular curriculum, SEL is incorporated into our lessons and daily classroom life. It is important to me as an educator to know that my students are not just excelling in their academics, but are healthy, happy, and have the tools they need to manage their emotions as they grow older.
What is social emotional learning?
Social-emotional learning is an education practice that integrates social and emotional skills into school curriculum. SEL is a methodology that helps students of all ages to better comprehend their emotions, to feel those emotions fully, and demonstrate empathy for others.
What is RULER?
RULER is an evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning (SEL) developed at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. RULER supports entire school communities in understanding the value of emotions, building the skills of emotional intelligence, and creating and maintaining a positive school climate.
