Good Shepherd Academy's foreign language curriculum prepares students to use their language proficiency to communicate in a global society effectively. The program's focus is to instill an understanding of the importance and benefits of speaking a language other than their native language. Good Shepherd Academy has a strong foreign language program in which Spanish is studied, practiced, and developed using visual aids, exercises, projects, and working collaboratively. Using these methods helps the students communicate effectively and gain knowledge and understanding of other cultures. The curriculum is designed to help the students learn pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, reading, and writing. The program enables students to apply their language skills to engage in meaningful conversations regarding community and culture by comparing life in the United States with that of the Spanish-speaking world. Students participate in 30-minute sessions once a week for grades Pre-K, through 1 grade, 35-minute sessions for grades 2 and 3, 4 grade twice a week 45 minutes, and 5 and 6 grade twice a week for 55-minute sessions.
